There are bikes everywhere! What really stands out are the number of women of every age, shape and size riding bikes, mostly in street clothes, grandmas with groceries, moms with kids. Most bikes are set up with a wire basket in the front and back. By the time we got to the Munich central station our train was standing room only. From there we had about an hour to kill and of course what do you do with an hour to kill, you eat apple strudel! Lynne said she does not have to have apple strudel again the whole trip because it was so good. Pretty good for a train station kiosk. The train ride from Munich to Bolzano was beautiful! We saw waterfalls, amazing bridges, snowy mountains, castles on rocks, pristine tirol hamlets, running rivers, tall pines on impossibly steep hills and amazing gorges! Our hotel for the night was the Hotel Grief, which has been owned by the same family since the 1800's! We got upgraded to a suite. It is really a nice place to stay. We took a before dinner stroll and saw much of Bolzano or Bozen as the Germans call it. We ended up with barking feet so we found our way back to our Piazza for a coffee and beer, and had a grand time just watching the people go by.
My fondest memory of Germany was the Apple Strudel. I used to get a it with a "doppel". A doppel is a double scoop of whipped cream. Yummy, yummy, yummy!
ReplyDeleteMy fondest memory was taking my little "studel" to bed.
